I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks.
And then I went back to work three days later.
Everyone said, “At least you know you can get pregnant.” “At least it was early.” “At least you have your other child.”
At least. At least. At least.
Nobody said, “This is a loss. You’re allowed to grieve.”
Nobody said, “Your body just went through something real. Rest.”
Nobody said, “You don’t have to be fine.”
So I pretended. For months. Until one day I wasn’t pretending anymore — I was just numb.
Here’s what I know now:
You don’t have to earn the right to be sad
Early miscarriage is still miscarriage
Your due date will still hurt
Other people’s comfort words often miss the mark — and that’s not your fault
You can be grateful for what you have AND grieve what you lost
If you’re in this right now — I’m so sorry. And you’re not alone.
Question for you: What’s something you wish someone had said to you during your hard season?
